Mumbai : It was announced by management of Westin Hotel from Gurgaon, near New Delhi that the proposed exhibition of paintings by anti-Hindu painter Husain has since been cancelled. Devout Hindus had opposed holding such exhibition. According to news published by a newspaper, an exhibition of 30 paintings of Husain was to be held from 9th January for period of a month. After the death of the said painter in June 2011, it was the first time that such exhibition was being organized. Mr. Shamashad Husain, the son of Husain was to attend the exhibition. Many devout Hindus started opposing the exhibition on reading the news. Mr. Shivaji Vatkar, the district coordinator of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad contacted officials of the hotel when he was informed about cancellation of the exhibition. Mr. Santosh Shete, a member of HJS from Delhi went to the hotel and met its manager Mrs. Archana and explained to her the subject. She informed him that owing to the opposition, the exhibition was cancelled.
