Mumbai – A bright green flag has been hoisted on the bastion of Mahim Fort in Mumbai, which is under the jurisdiction of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and has been declared as a State Protected Monument. The encroachment on this fort was removed by the state Government during Diwali last year. More than 90 percent of the encroachers were Muslims. After the encroachment was removed, the fort lovers celebrated Dipotsav at the fort.

At the entrance of the Mahim Fort, the ASI said, ‘This building is a State Protected Monument’ is only for namesake. From the entrance to the inside, the Muslims had built large illegal settlements in the fort. After continuous complaints by the fort lovers against this, the State Government last year rehabilitated 267 families from the fort and demolished the illegal constructions in the fort. After that, the entrance of the fort was locked. Due to this, this fort has become a deserted and scary place at present. A large number of trees have grown in the fort. This fortress has become a haven for alcoholics and drug addicts. Because of that, the ASI needs to take serious action regarding the green sign hoisted on the fort and the illegal activities going on in this fort, say the fort lovers.
