Crown was gifted by PM Narendra Modi
Dhaka (Bangladesh) – The crown of Goddess Kali at the Jeshoreshwari Temple in the Satkhira District has been stolen. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited this temple in March 2021 and gifted the crown which is made of silver and gold. The temple priest left after completing the morning worship on Thursday. The crown was stolen later in the afternoon. The Police have launched an investigation into the theft and are checking the temple’s CCTV footage.
1. Jyoti Chattopadhyay, a member of the family responsible for the temple’s upkeep, stated that according to legends, the Jeshoreshwari Temple is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths spread across India and neighbouring countries. It is believed to be the site where the soles of Goddess Sati fell, and she resides here in the form of Jeshoreshwari.
2. The Jeshoreshwari Temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali. It is believed that this temple was built in the 12thcentury by a Brahmin named Anari, who constructed the temple with 100 doors. It was later renovated by Lakshman Sen in the 13thcentury and rebuilt by King Pratapaditya in the 16thcentury.
