Rangpur (Bangladesh) : Over 1 lakh Hindus participated in a protest here organised by the Sanatan Jagran Manch against atrocities on the Hindu community. Protesters chanted slogans like “Jai Bhavani,” “Har Har Mahadev,” and “Jai Shriram,” while waving saffron flags. However, incidents of Jihadi Muslims attacking Hindus were reported, leaving 20 young men injured. Police also reportedly assaulted the Hindu protesters, and the injured were hospitalised. At the event, the chief guest, Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, accused the Government of discriminating against Hindus.
Through this protest, Hindus submitted an 8-point memorandum to Prof Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor of Bangladesh’s Interim Government. Their demands included establishing fast-track tribunals for speedy trials of cases involving attacks on Hindus, immediate implementation of the Minority Protection Act, establishing a Hindu Religious Welfare Trust, modernising the Pali Education Board, announcing a five-point action plan for minority protection, and creating a National Scheduled Caste Commission.
Muhammad Yunus had previously condemned attacks on minority communities, calling them “heinous” and urging the youth to protect Hindu, Christian, and Buddhist families.
Hindus’ properties and homes are still being looted – Chinmoy Das
“During the 1971 liberation war, 70% of those who fled the country to save their lives were Hindus, whose homes and possessions were looted. Even decades after independence, this behaviour continues,” said Chinmoy Das during his address at the protest. He added,“Since 5th August, terrorist and Jihadi leaders have been released from prison, but not a single Hindu has been freed. Hindus support no political party but will vote in the future for one that upholds democracy. Today, 3 crore Sanatanis have united in the country.”
Chinmoy Das ordered to leave Rangpur
On the night of 21st November, Chinmoy Das revealed at a press conference that authorities ordered him to vacate his hotel in Rangpur. The Police reportedly told him, “We cannot allow you to stay here.”
