Kolhapur – Vishalgad, which had been closed for the last 6 months, has been opened by the administration on January 5 with some terms and conditions. The order also states that if any programme is to be held from now on, it will have to be done only after taking permission from the administration. Vishalgad Protection and Anti-Encroachment Action Committee, as well as Hindu organisations are fighting encroachment at Vishalgad and had demanded that the district administration should open up the fort only after all encroachments are evicted.

In this regard, the state president of Hindu Ekta Andolan, Mr Nitin Shinde said, “In the Hindu Garjana Sabha held in Sangli on January 10, we presented the current situation at Vishalgad to Minister Mr Nitesh Rane and demanded that the Urus should not be allowed to be held at Vishalgad under any circumstances. Minister Rane had assured that ‘Urus will not be allowed there under any circumstance. We will stand there as a soldiers of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj if it comes to that’. Therefore, it is a success of the Hindu Garjana Sabha.”
