Warning to stage agitations if persons with knowledge in religious field not included in Committee

No atheists and members of progressive factions need to be appointed in committee set up by Govt. for solving Sri Mahalakshmi Mandir dispute

Kolhapur : In the committee appointed by the State Government to end the dispute related to Sri Mahalakshmi Devi Mandir, persons with faith in God, knowledgeable persons from religious field and representatives of devotees of the Goddess should be included; rather than communalists, atheists and activists of progressive factions. ‘Hindutvavadi’ organizations will take to the streets to protest if this suggestion was not taken seriously. The above was warning given through a representation submitted to District Collector Avinash Subhedar on 28th June by Sri Mahalakshmi Devasthan Bhrashtachar –virodhi Kruti Samiti (action committee against corrupt practices of Devasthan Samiti)’. Tehasildar Dilip Sawant accepted the representation on behalf of the District Collector. Delegation submitting representation comprised of ‘Hindutvavadis’ viz. Shri. Sambhaji Salunkhe, Shri. Sharad Mali, Shri. Kiran Kulkarni, Shri. Pramod Sawant, Shri. Sunil Patil, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti’s Coordinator Shri. Sunil Ghanavat, its members viz. Shri. Madhukar Nazare, Shri. Shivanand Swami and Shri. Babasaheb Bhopale.

It has been stated in the representation that …

1. Sri Mahalakhsmi Mandir is one of the ‘Shaktipeethas’ and place of pilgrimage of millions of people. For last 3 weeks, attempts are being made for creating communal tension on the basis of some dispute related to this temple. It has created fear amongst devotees visiting the temple.

2. The row was created over ‘Sripujaks’ of this temple dressing up the idol of Goddess in ‘Ghagra-Choli’. It is most condemnable of those ‘Sripujaks’ to change the traditional way of dressing up the idol and they have hurt religious sentiments of devotees. Action should be taken against the concerned ‘Sripujaks’ for the same and it is the stand taken by all ‘Hindutvavadi’ organizations; but taking disadvantage of this incident, few persons, who do not believe in God, are trying to implement own progressive, atheist and anti-traditions agenda.

3. Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil has announced that a committee would be set up under the Chairmanship of District Collector for solving the dispute related to Mahalakshmi Mandir, Kolhapur and a report would be prepared within 3 months, on the rights and authority of ‘Sripujaks’ for submitting to State Law and Justice Department.

4. Few atheists and activists of progressive factions are trying to get entry in this committee though they have no knowledge of matters related to Dharma or Deities.

5. These atheists can create clash even in the meetings and spread it using mass media for spoiling law and order situation in the district. The persons of such opposite thinking had beaten up ‘Sripujak’ Ajit Thanekar when even you were present in the meeting. Therefore, if you (District Collector) do not pay attention to the above advice and in case, any further dispute is created in future, you would be solely responsible for the same, is the notice given to you through this letter.
