Issue related to case filed by police in connection with film ‘Jodha-Akbar’ !
Sangli : On 27th February 2008, activists of ‘Shri Shivapratishthan Hindustan (SSPH)’ opposed to a Hindi film titled ‘Jodha-Akbar’ since there was distortion of history in the film. Police unnecessarily cane- charged activists of SSPH leading to riots. Police had filed cases against activists of SSPH. Shri. Hanmantrao Pawar, Shri. Nitin Chougule, Shri. Avinash Sawant, Shri. Milind Tanawade, Shri. Anil Tanawade, Shri. Nitin Kale, Shri. Haridas Padalkar, Shahir Mohan Yadav under various clauses. Verdict was passed on these cases on 4th July. Chief Magistrate N. H. Makhare acquitted 8 activists of SSPH. Advocate Rajendra Shimpi represented SSPH activists.
Police had filed cases under IPC 353, 143, 147, 148 accusing activists mainly under charges of forcing multiplex theatre to close, damaging theatre, attacking police and for creating hindrance in government work etc. Police, however, could not produce any evidence against them. There was big difference in statements made by police officers in Court; also many proofs presented by police were inadequate; therefore, the Judge acquitted the accused. Advocate Rajendra Shimpi pleaded selflessly and very sincerely on behalf of all activists of SSPH.
