Ratnagiri (Maharashtra): A drive to enlighten people on ideal manner of immersion of Sri Ganesh idols was undertaken by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) on the sea-shore of Mandavi.
35 activists of HJS explained the science behind immersion of flowers etc. offered to Sri Ganesh so also displayed banners for the benefit of devotees. The HJS activists were standing on the sea-shore since 4.30 p.m. with banners in their hand. They made an appeal to the devotees to immerse the ‘nirmalya (stale flowers and leaves offered to the Deity)’; the devotees too reciprocated in positive manner.
Environmentalists appeal to give the ‘nirmalya’ for making fertilizers
An appeal was also being made to the devotees on behalf of the Technology and Pollution Institute, Shirgaon, ‘Matsya Vidyalaya’ and Rotary Club to donate ‘nirmalya’ for making fertilizers; but most of the devotees preferred to immerse the ‘nirmalya’ in water.

2. Few devotees went through the boards displayed by HJS and sought detailed information on the same.
3. Many devotees immersed the ‘nirmalya’ in water as a result; the environmentalists collected the stale flowers floating back to the shore.
4. The followers of Sri Aniruddha Bapu cordoned both sides of the roads making arrangement for proper immersion processions.
