Mumbai : National flags made of plastic are sold on the occasion of national festivals which is a crime and High Court has imposed restrictions over the same. Municipal Corporation should also create awareness about it. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) met Mumbai Mayor Shri. Vishwanath Mahadeshwar and Dy. Mayor, Sou. Hemangi Worlikar in this context and submitted representations to them which also included matters related to celebration of forthcoming Ganesh festival. Regarding Ganeshotsav, it has been stated in the representation that giving the reason of environment, few environmentalists are promoting Shri Ganesh idols made of paper pulp; but making idols from paper pulp is not only against the ‘Dharma-shaastra’ but it is also harmful from the viewpoint of protection of environment. When paper pulp dissolves in water, poisonous elements also get mixed in water and pollute it on large scale. Therefore, National Green Tribunal has issued orders against making Shri Ganesh idols with paper pulp. Mayor should pay attention to these facts. Also, it is not right to immerse idols in artificial water tanks as per ‘Dharma-shaastra’; so, Municipal Corporation should not encourage erecting artificial water tanks. Similar representation was submitted to Dy. Mayor Sou. Hemangi Worlikar by Dr. Uday Dhuri, the spokesperson of HJS, Shri. Satish Sonar and other volunteers.
