Pimpri : Every year, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) undertakes a drive for celebration of Ganesh festival in ideal manner and for prevention of malpractices observed during the festival. This year too, under its ‘Adarsh Ganeshotsav’ drive, various ‘Hindutvavadi’ organizations paid visit to Mayor Shri. Nitin Kalaje, of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), its Commissioner Shravan Hardikar, Dy. Mayor Sou. Shailaja More and municipal councilor, Shri. Eknath Pawar on 26th July. All of them promised to make efforts, with unity, for celebration of Ganesh festival in ideal manner and not to hurt religious sentiments by erecting artificial water tanks for immersion of idols. Delegation submitting representation comprised of members viz. advocate Mangesh Pawar, ‘Hindu Swabhiman Pratishthan’s Shri. Uttam Dandime, environmentalist Shri. Vikas Bhise, Shri. Umesh Pawar of ‘Akhil Pimpri-Chinchwad Shivajayanti Mahotsav Samiti’; Dr. Avinash Vaidya, follower of Shankar Maharaj; Shri. Parag Gokhale of HJS besides, many ‘Hindutvavadis’ and devotees.

Mayor Nitin Kalaje (No.1) accepting representation

1. Many times, so-called environmentalists make undue noise about water pollution, misleading devotees and forcing them to immerse idols in artificial water tanks. Later, PCMC administration disposes of these idols in such way which hurts religious sentiments of Hindus; therefore, artificial water tanks should not be erected and immersion of idols in flowing water should be encouraged by releasing additional water in rivers, was the demand made by ‘Hindutvavadis’ and devotees.

2. Mayor Shri. Nitin Kalaje said in this connection, “If representation is given against erection of artificial water tanks, I will talk to the concerned persons about the same.” Delegation members requested to include devout Hindus and devotees in committee set up by PCMC for management of Ganesh festival, he immediately instructed his personal secretary to take necessary action in this regard.

3. Dy. Mayor Sou. Shailaja More also promised to extend cooperation in every respect when municipal councilors viz. Sou. Zamabai Barane, Sou. Anuradha Gorakhe. Sou. Kamal Gholap and Sou. Sharmila Babar were present. They said that they would get idols made of clay and immerse them in flowing water. The municipal councilors informed Mayor about Ganesh idols from artificial water tanks taken in garbage vans while explaining drawbacks of artificial water tanks.

4. BJP municipal councilor Shri. Eknath Pawar also promised to invite HJS volunteers for meeting of office bearers of Ganeshotsav Mandals proposed to be held on behalf of PCMC so that they can explain all issues creating awareness in office bearers of ‘Ganeshotsav Mandals’. BJP’s municipal councilor Shri. Namdev Dhake also joined the meeting.

We will encourage use of Ganesh idols made of clay ! – Shri. Shravan Hardikar

Commissioner Shri. Shravan Hardikar (on right) receiving representation from activists

Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar said, “Ganesh idol should be made of clay and should be immersed in flowing water. One Cell will be set up for making available maximum idols made of clay. Let us have small idols but high devotion. Ganesh idols made of clay should be made even at homes. Municipal administration will take care to see that idols made of PoP and immersed in artificial water tanks would not be insulted or abused in any manner and religious sentiments would not be hurt. Environment will also be preserved so also religious sentiments. Ganesh idols from water tanks will be immersed only after performing ‘puja’. If you have any ideas on this, you can suggest to us; including where we can immerse Ganesh idols which are immersed in water tanks. Let us celebrate Ganesh festival with cooperation from all and PCMC will also extend necessary cooperation to you.
