Varanasi : Few incidents have taken place in which fanatics attacked pilgrims from ‘Kavad-Yatra’ held in the month of ‘Shravan’. At Khelam village in Bareilly district, ‘Kavad’ pilgrims were attacked and beaten up in the presence of Superintendent of Police, additional District Collector and Dy. District Collector. In Kutubsher area of Saharanpur, pieces of meat were thrown on the route of pilgrimage. At Devaband, a Muslim youth committed suicide under a vehicle in which Kavad pilgrims were travelling. Attempts were made to show that Kavad pilgrims only killed him; but the whole incident has been recorded; therefore, the truth could be exposed. Through all such incidents, attempts are made to defame Kavad pilgrims. Stringent action should be taken against fanatics for attacking ‘kavad’ pilgrims and these pilgrims should be provided security. The above demand has been made in a meeting organized by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) of ‘Hindutvavadis’ at Varanasi.

Despite tight security, Amarnath pilgrimage was attacked by terrorists on 10th July; killing 7 persons and injuring 19. Stringent action should be taken against Pakistan and terrorists from Kashmir so that they would not dare to do such things again. It was decided in the meeting to submit a representation with the above demands to the District Collector.
