Hubli (Karnataka) : On 2nd Nov 2010 a protest rally was organized in Hubli to oppose the Supreme Court’s order to demolish unauthorized places of worship. Temples are places of prayer and pooja. They are the source of Divine energy which the devotees are blessed with. They give bliss to people. Hence, these should not be demolished, rather they should be authorized. It was with this objective that the protest was organized.
The rally began with the ceremonial worship (pooja) of the dharmadhvaj (dharma flag). Mr. Pramod Mutalik – guide and chief of Sri Ram Sena, volunteers of Sri Ram Sena, and members of rickshaw union, dharmabhimanis and members of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti participated in the protest. About 115 persons participated in the rally. The protestors raised slogans throughout the course of the rally. The rally started at 12 noon from the Durgada Bailu circle and ended at the tehsiladar’s office. A memorandum was submitted through the tehsiladar to district commissioner, chief minister, governor and minister of Mujarai dept (dharmika datti dept) and endowment affairs dept.
Highlights:
1. Despite heavy downpour of rains the participants continued enthusiastically.
2. Members of rickshaw union participated in the rally with their rickshaws.
3. The rickshaw union members had prepared and displayed banners of the temple near the auto stand which had the text “Protect the Hindu temples”.
4. The rickshaw union members themselves had arranged for the public address sound system.
5. They had even prepared and brought a separate memorandum on their own behalf.
6. Members of the media were following the procession from the beginning to the end.
