Mumbai: An Act is going to be passed by the State Government based on the ’15th Law Commission Report’ prepared by Shri. D. N. Chaudhary, the President of Maharashtra Law Commission which is to be called as ‘Maharashtra temple and Religious Institution act (Management and Regulation) Act’.
All religions have raised objection to this Law. Shri. Vilasrao Deshmukh, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra has assured that a meeting would be held shortly with the officers of Law and Justice. The Portfolio of Law and Justice is presently handled by the CM. Delegation of ‘Committee of Charitable and Religious Institutions’ called on the CM recently. There were members from all religions like Hindu, Jain, Sikh, Parasis and Bohra-Muslims.
Sanatan Sanstha and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti have started agitation against the decision of the Government to take over management of all temples. Before meeting the CM, delegation also met Shri. D.N. Chaudhary at his office. As the response from Shri. Chaudhary was not very encouraging, the delegation decided to meet the CM. It was pointed out to him that as was done by the 13th Law Commission, this time, people’s suggestions were not called by the 15th Law Commission. Members of the delegation impressed upon the CM that under the Constitution of India, everyone has a right to follow any religion and customs and traditions as prescribed in those religions. Therefore, the proposed Law is anti-Constitution and people will fight against passing of such Law.
The CM said that if people’s suggestions were not taken into account, the matter will be considered and a meeting with officers from the concerned department will be held to discuss the objections raised to passing of the said Law.
