Bhadravati (Karnataka) : The place got its name ‘Vankapur’ as Maharshi Vanka had stayed here. Later, the name changed to Benkipur. River Bhadravati flows through this town; therefore, it got the name ‘Bhadravati’. The temple of Sree Lakshmi-Narasimha constructed during the regime of Hoysala has history of more than 500 years. Nowadays, problems like ‘jihadi’ terrorism, conversion to other religions, and denigration of Deities and blind following of western culture have taken serious turn. A Hindu unification meet was organized by Hindu Janajagrui Samiti (HJS) on 31.10.2010 at 5.00 p.m. in ‘Veershaiva Hall’ as a step towards uniting Hindus, to oppose attacks on Hindu Dharma, to impart training to Hindus on Dharma and to explain the importance of ‘Dharmacharan’. The meeting was started at 5.00 p.m.
The main speaker – Mr. Adarsh Gokhale, Mr. Mohan Gauda of HJS, Mrs. Kaveri Raykar of ‘Ranaragini’ and Miss Saumya of Sanatan Sanstha shared the dais. The meeting began with blowing of conch and recitation of ‘Vedamantras’ by ‘Vedamurtis’. This followed with felicitation of ‘Vedamurtis’ and lighting of lamp by the chief guest /speaker Mr. Adarsh Gokhale. Mrs. Revati H. N. felicitated Mrs. Kanchana Vernekar, a representative of ‘Sanatan Prabhat’. Mrs. Kanchana said, “Sanatan Pabhat’ is a rightful platform of every Hindu’ and she explained its importance. Mr.Vijay Revankar of HJS explained, in brief, the goal of HJS, its activities and specialities. In the next week, we all are going to celebrate ‘Deepavali’ festival. HJS has printed ‘sattvik’ greetings cards with best wishes for Hindus to create awareness among them towards their Nation and Dharma. These ‘sattvik’ greetings cards were inaugurated by Mr. Adarsh Gokhale.

Working for welfare of Hinduism is an offence according to communalists ! – Miss Saumya
Sanatan Sanstha has been propagating spirituality, working for social causes and carrying out ‘Dharma-prasar’ for the past 20 years. Many of you must have the impression that Sanatan Sanstha is a temple, or an organization with seekers who serve people with folded hands during various fairs and which gives information about Dharma or is an organization where seekers sell books; but efforts are going on for the last one year to depict such organization as a very dangerous terrorist organization. In between, we were also falsely alleged of our involvement in Hindu terrorism, saffron terrorism etc. Today, Sanatan has been giving information to people about the various rituals, why they are performed and science behind such rituals through the research conducted by the Sanstha.
Today, women are physically and mentally weak although they are financially independent ! – Mrs. Kaveri Raykar
Incidents of ‘love jihad’ against Hindu women are on rise. There are very few newspapers like ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ that publish oppression of Hindus in communal India as other newspapers have no place for such kind of news. We Hindus are indifferent although many such incidents are taking place quite openly. Today when Muslim women are getting trained in use of air rifle and swords; our women are training in beautician course, modeling etc. We should think whether such courses are going to help when someone attacks us or tries to rape us. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has started an independent branch called ‘Ranaragini’ to make women active, develop fighting spirit and leadership qualities. Mrs. Kaveri Raykar made an appeal to women to join ‘Ranaragini’.
There will be people’s outbreak if, as per the order, the Govt. demolishes temples to clear the places occupied by unauthorized temples ! – Mr. Mohan Gauda
By declaring the temples as unauthorized in terms of the Court order, the Government is trying to attack Hindus by giving instructions to demolish about 120 temples in Shivmogga district out of which 70 temples are only in Bhadravati. On one hand, the Government is ‘governmentalising’ Hindu temples interfering in our religious matters and on the other hand, it is providing all facilities to worship places of followers of other religions. The Government has presently given Rs. 167 crores to madarasas but the grant offered to Hindus is negligible although the Government is getting revenue of Rs. 100 crores from the temples. There is no guarantee that the corrupt, shameless Government will manage our temples properly; therefore, it should not interfere in matters of our temples. The honorable Governor has gone against Hindus by refusing to sign the law banning cow-slaughter. HJS condemns this and demands that due respect should be paid to Hindus religious feelings at the earliest. Recently, Arundhati Roy has passed a comment that Kashmir is not a part of India and has committed treason. The Government should take her into custody under the offence of treachery. The incidents of denigration of Hindu Deities, insult of Hindu Saints are on the rise. Mr. Mohan Gauda requested that the Karnataka Government should pass a separate law to stop such denigration.
The program was concluded with singing of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’. Miss Apurva and Miss Lakshmi compeered the program.

Around 660 people attended this Sabha.
Highlights of the Sabha
1. Many reporters attending the program as part of their duty were quite impressed and became devout Hindus. They attended the program from start to finish. Some of them wanted to publish its report on the following day, therefore, they went to Cyber Cafe that was quite far from the venue and sent their report through email. They also came back to the venue and attended the discussion program after the ‘sabha’ for an hour. One reporter very actively took part giving many positive instructions / suggestions etc. They had discussions with the speakers and expressed happiness over the meeting. When the speakers started to thank them, they said that there was no need to thank as they too have become devout Hindus.
2. Many devout Hindus took active part. Many devout Hindus were receiving phone calls on their cell phones and were going out to answer the call. HJS workers were requesting them to not leave the meeting to which they were replying that it was not possible to leave such program in between and they would return after talking over phone. The hall was jam-packed and some devout were offering their seats to the standees in between. There were about 80 devout Hindus, most of them youth members, who attended the discussions after the ‘sabha’. The women too showed interest in opening branches of ‘Ranaragini’ and starting ‘Dharmasatsangs’ at various places.
3. Views of police about HJS: There were about 20 policmen and lady-police constables at the venue. They were reading the boards displayed by HJS and trying to understand the subject. One Inspector, who was quite impressed with HJS activities, said, “Your organization is doing a good job. By the name of the organization Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, people may feel that it is some pro-Hindu organization like Bajarang Dal and Sriram Sene; but its work is far better than the other organizations. You should change the name of your oragnisation to something else.” This showed that he felt that HJS activities should reach to everyone and people should take part in such activities; besides people should not get misguided that it was just another organization. He also bought many books and gave his address and contact number. He said that he could be contacted any time in case of need. He was telling other policemen not to just move around the venue but listen to the speeches carefully.
4. Resolve to protest against the policy of the Government to clear the places of unauthorized temples. After the discussions, it was decided by all devout Hindus to unite and protest against the decision of the Government. It was also resolved to work hard towards their goal.
5. Handbills about celebration of Deepavali festival were distributed among all devout Hindus. The greetings card published by HJS on the occasion was also released.

Feedbacks/ Responses (as put in the collection boxes)
1. The name of your organization reminds of the organizations like VHP, BJD etc. therefore, people feel that it is a political program. I request that – the name of your organization may be changed to ‘Demonstration of Hindu culture’, ‘Perceptions in Hindu Dharma’, ‘Way of thinking and behavior of Hindus’, ‘Do not degenerate Hindu culture’, ‘Hindu Dharma Samiti’ etc. People will come out of curiosity of the name is changed. Please consider my suggestion. – Mr. M. Suresh, News observer, Bhadravati
2. By attending this meeting, awareness has been created in me towards Hindu Dharma and I would like to do something for protection of Hindu culture. I will try to do as much ‘seva’ as possible from today. – Mr. Harish P, student, Hosnagar, Shivmogga
3. I was very happy to know about Hindu Janajagruti Samiti. I have bought some books. There are very nice articles on ‘Dharmajagruti’; thanks for the same.
