Sri Maruti’s Idol in the Peshwa’s era (around 300 years ago) was found at Pune

Pune (Maharashtra):  An idol of Sri Maruti was found at Sangam Ghat where work was undertaken under the river development program. The idol of Sri Maruti belong to Peshwas’ era and is 8 feet in height and 3.5 feet wide. Here there is a confluence of two rivers, namely Mula and Mutha. When work was in progress using a JCB to remove the garbage in the river, this idol was seen by Mr. Shivaji Khandagle and Mr. Ravi Shelar around 3:30 in the afternoon. The confluence or joining of two rivers is considered very auspicious place in Hindu culture.

Historian Pandurang Balkavde told the idol has a crown, bell in the tail, traditional dress on the idol and a weapon in the hand. To protect the idol Patit Pawan Organisation’s City President Mr. Rajabhau Patil, Vice President  Mr. Pravin Zhavar, along with Mr. Pravin Jadhav, Mr. Dhananjay Kshirsagar were present.
