Chennai: HJS was invited to deliver the presidential address during the Karthigai Day Celebrations of SKNS PMC Vivekananda Junior College, Perambur, Chennai-11 on 20 November 2010. This opportunity was got by the efforts of Mr. Subramaniam, Jana Kalyan. Students of class X, XI and XII participated in the program.

The whole corridor, staircase and the hall upstairs were decorated with traditional rangolis and earthen lamps.

The program started with the lighting of the Kuthuvillakku by Samiti’s Chennai Co-ordinator, Smt.Uma Ravichandran. It was followed by prayer and welcome address. Then the significance of Karthigai Day was explained by a teacher. It was followed by a bhajan session in which all the students sang in unison bhajans with so much gusto and enthusiasm.

Then, the Presidential address was delivered by Smt. Uma Ravichandran. The lofty principle behind celebrating Karthigai Deepam, the significance of praying to Sri Ganesh before any endeavor, the correct method of celebrating birthday as per our culture and the appropriate way of celebrating New year was explained to them.  Students received medals and awards from the hands of Mr. Rama Gopalanji, Hindu Munnani who graced the occasion. Vote of Thanks was delivered by the Vice-Principal. The program ended with singing of Aarti.

Highlights:

  1. Mr. Rama Gopalanji, Editor, Spiritual Tamil Magazine, ‘Pasuthai’ remembered HJS members who had visited him many months back. He told whether he can get the karpoor again as he was not able to find such pure karpoor anywhere else. It was assured to him that karpoor will be delivered at his office. He was presented with Hindu Chetana Tamil Panchang, 2011.
  2. The school follows the tradition of celebrating all Hindu festivals to pass on the rich tradition to the students. The Principal and teachers are very much dedicated to the cause. The Correspondent of the School holds the honorary post without remuneration and strives that the children should imbibe our heritage and culture. A copy of the Tamil Panchang (Calendar) and flex book was presented to the Principal.
  3. The Correspondent suggested HJS to take an orientation lecture for the teachers also.
  4. Around 300 students participated in the program.
  5. The Asst. editor of a Spiritual Tamil Magazine, ‘Pasuthai’ Mr.Ganesan also participated in the function.
