Bill on so-called eradication of superstitions not included in the agenda

Mumbai (Maharashtra) : The winter session of State Legislative Assembly will start from 1st December and 17 Bills are going to be presented for passing; but the list does not include the Bill on so-called eradication of superstitions. The above information was given in a press conference by Mr. Harshvardhan Patil, the State Minister for Parliamentary affairs.

In the detailed information given by Mr. Patil on the issue, he said, “The proposed anti-superstitions Bill was passed in the Legislative Assembly in utter chaos. It was opposed by Shiv Sena and BJP members in the Legislative Council and therefore, it was handed over to Joint Committee of the Cabinet for examination.

The Committee was given extension three times but it could not hold any meetings during the last two years. It was not possible to give it extension for the fourth time. When the 11th Legislative Assembly was elected, the Bill got automatically cancelled. The new Bill will have to be brought with 22 modifications and the ‘cabinet Note’ required for the same has not yet been received. In the winter session, 11 new Bills will be presented; other 6 Bills are old and will be discussed in the cabinet meetings. The work to be transacted till 10th December has been earlier finalized in the advisory committee’s meeting; but the formation of new Government will necessitate re-introduction of few matters. The Bills which are included now are ‘Sthanik Swarajya Sanstha Tax, water tax, grants to the government employees on compassionate grounds to be given by cheques, tax on old vehicles, improvement to be carried out in medical colleges etc. among others.

Effect of HJS demand against passing of anti-superstitions Act

HJS has been continuously opposing passing of the ‘Maharashtra Narbali, Yaun shishan, Amanavi ani Aghouri Krutya Adhiniyam 2010’; therefore, the Bill has been pending. There was a possibility of coming up of the said Bill for passing in the forthcoming winter session starting from 1st December. Representations were submitted to the Chief Minister and Dy. Chief Minister through the medium of Warakari Sampradaya, Dharmacharyas and other pro-Hindu organizations to show their opposition to passing of the said Bill. It was demanded in the representation to first discuss the shortcomings in the Bill. Owing to the constant opposition of HJS, the Government has decided to not include the said Bill in discussions during the forthcoming winter session.
