Kartik Amawasya, Kaliyug Varsha 5112

Mumbai: Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) staged demonstrations yesterday between 5.00 p.m. and 7.00 p.m. demanding immediate action against a ‘quack’ Bengali baba for cheating many people and exploiting them physically, sexually and financially. The demonstrations were held near Dadar (East) Railway Station. Many HJS members and devout Hindus took part in the demonstrations. Banners were carried by the demonstrators displaying demands like ‘Teach a lesson to ‘quack’ Bengali baba who has exploited women physically, sexually and financially’, ‘Boycott newspapers which publish ‘quack’ Bengalibaba’s advertisements’ etc. People were explained the matter using loudspeakers. HJS members also raised slogans against the sins of Bengalibaba. Many people signed the representation against Bengalibaba for submission to the Government and police.

Mr. Shivaji Vatkar, the District- coordinator of HJS for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad said, “On one hand, the Maharashtra Government wants to pass anti-superstitions Act claiming to stop such misdeeds and on the other hand, takes no action against those who are publishing advertisements of such ‘quack babas’. Owing to the double-standard used by the State Government by not taking action to stop such wrong doings but by planning to pass new Act for elimination of Hindu Dharma, the Government has, in a way, encouraged such ‘babas’. This movement has been started to stringently punish the concerned offenders and create awareness among the people as also in Government.”

Representation submitted by HJS to the Government and police to take stringent action against ‘quack baba’

The State Home Minister, Director General of Police, Mumbai Police Commissioner and senior police inspector at J. J. Marg police station were submitted a representation signed by 300 people in which it has been mentioned, ‘From the past few months, ‘baba’s power has been growing and big advertisements/ posters are displayed at railway stations, newspapers and at other public places misleading people. As it is, people are suffering and quite depressed; therefore, many people go to such ‘quack babas’ for solutions and get cheated. Many incidents of cheating have been uncovered. Recently, Bengali baba Jadim Khadim alias Mehdi Kasim Shaikh raped girls between the age group of 13 to 25 years and forced them to go for abortion. He has even robbed them of about Rs. 1 crore.

The incident took place in Mumbai. It is suspected that the Bengali baba is a Bangla Deshi and has fake papers of being an Indian. He used to oppress girls under guise of teaching them ‘Quran’ and Urdu. It is very shameful that in a State like Maharashtra which is supposed to be a progressive State, such incidents are occurring. HJS, therefore, demands that to prevent such incidents from taking place in future, the Government should take immediate action under the existing laws against such Bengali babas and their unauthorized advertisements. HJS will have to intensify its agitation in case the State Government does not take action against the ‘quack’ babas.

Highlights

1. Many reporters from different news channels interviewed Mr. Vatkar and other members of HJS taking part in the demonstration.
2. The policemen on duty appreciated the disciplined manner in which the demonstrations were carried on.

Reactions

1. Mr. Prasad Shyamrao Deshmukh, Akkalkot, Dist. Solapur : The dominance of Bengali babas has considerably increased in whole Maharashtra. They give some so-called holy ash with which people start obeying them. This is causing sexual exploitation of women and financial exploitation of people. If an individual tries to fight against them, they scare him; therefore, organization like HJS can form a group to fight against them and they can be taught a lesson by people coming together. The movement started by you is very good.
2. Mr. Shankar Jagtap, Mumbai : Such offenders and those aiding them should be punished in the same manner as was done in the regime of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
3. Mr. Anuj Karva, Mumbai : It is very unfortunate that some people still have faith in such quack ‘babas’. Such ‘babas’ should be banished from the society. The attempt of HJS to create awareness among people is commendable.
