‘Dwarka’ should be converted into world-class museum – demands HJS with Gujarat Govt.

Kartik Amawasya, Kaliyug Varsha 5112

Mumbai: The submerged ‘Dwarka’ should be converted into a world-class religious and cultural museum, is the demand made by Mr. Shivaji Vatkar on behalf of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) through a letter sent to the Chief Minister of Gujarat Mr. Narendra Modi and Minister for Tourism Mr. Jainarayan Narmadashankar Vyas. It has been mentioned in the said letter, ‘The Department of Marine Archeology has discovered under-water ‘Dwarka’ near the Gujarat Coast which is a place of reverence for thousands of Hindus. The 3500 years old ‘Dwarka’ is a religious and cultural place of worship. The experts in the field feel that it can be converted into a big museum. The then Tourism Minister, Mr. Anantkumar was sent a proposal of museum by the concerned department; but the proposal was ignored. The historical treasure of Indians is getting submerged under sand. If it is converted into a museum with the financial help from private industrialists, companies etc. it can become an international centre of tourism. With the initiative of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the ‘Iron man’ who is a pride of Gujarat, the Somnath Temple was reconstructed. The present Central Government is not bothered about Srikrushna’s ‘Dwakra’. In such situation, the Chief Minister of Gujarat and his State Government can open the biggest wonder in the world for the people to see; a cultural heritage of Dwarka should be opened for the world to seek blessings of Lord Krushna.

The following draft of the letter was sent to Gujarat Government

To

CM Shri Narendra Modi,
              &
STM Shri Jay Narayan Vyas

Dear Sir,

Namaste
Nearly Two decades after Marine Archaeologists found the City of Dwarka (3500 years old) off the coast of Gujarat, which is of immense cultural & religious importance to India and it’s people, is getting buried under the sand due to neglect by the Authorities.

If any other country would have found City like Dwarka in their part of the world, they would with great pride have preserved it and turned it in to underwater Museum.

One such proposal for the Museum was submitted by the Marine Archaeology centre of the National Institute of Oceanography in 1998/99 to then Tourism Minister Ananth Kumar but nothing materialised. According to S R Roa Navy people and the Engineers who can do underwater conservation have said, such project is feasible.

Gujarat at the moment is trying to promote tourism a lot. Well if a Glass Tunnel with the help of modern technology were to be build to Underwater city of Dwarka, there would be more tourist coming to Gujarat (More than all the Temples visited added together). I am sure for a Project of such importance Major Corporations would be more then willing to donate, contribute or help finance it.

We therefore hereby request that:

a) Preserve the Underwater City of Dwarka

b) Turn it in to Cultural & Religious Museum

c) Make Gujarat proud of its Heritage.

Your Sincerely,
Hindu Janajagruti Samiti
