Valpoi (Goa): It has been proved once again that the government and the police machinery have failed to curb the temple thefts in the State. Surprisingly despite the time of 8 days given by the trustees of temples in South Goa to take strong measures to curb the thefts in temples, there was a theft in Sri Bhuipal Ravalnath Mandir in Valpoi in North Goa on the night of 31st December. The miscreants decamped with Rs.15 thousand by breaking open the donation box. One is amazed to notice a second incident after the theft in Brahmakaramali Sri Brahmadev temple in Sattari by breaking open the donation box. A criminal case against unknown persons has been registered by Valpoi police.
Sri Bhuipal Ravalnath Mandir was built just a year ago. The priest, Mr. Vishram Gaokar had gone to the temple to light the lamp in the evening at 6.30 when he noticed the broken lock of the donation box. According to the local people since Anniversary Day celebrations were held recently at the temple, there must have been thousands of rupees collection in the box. This temple is about half a kilometre from the village and there are no inhabitants there. The locals said that since they were also busy enjoying the 31st night celebrations, welcoming the New Year, the thieves must have taken the advantage of these situations and dared to break open the donation box.
This is an example of ‘adverse period’ Sanatan is telling about!
