Ashtadhatu idols, gold crown stolen from Durga temple in Odisha’s Sakhigopal

Sakhigopal: Some unidentified miscreants allegedly stole ashtadhatu idols, gold crown and other ornaments of deities from Jaya Durga temple here last night, police official informed today.

The matter came to light after the priest found the lock of the temple broken in the morning and all the valuable items including ashtadhatu idols and gold ornaments of deities were stolen.

Shockingly, the miscreants stole the idol of presiding deity Jaya Durga, made of eight metals and the gold crown.

The valuable ornaments and idols of other deities including Nilakantha, Somnath, Gopinath and Radha Krushna were also found stolen in the temple, a local said.

The priest immediately informed about the incident to the temple’s managing committee.

The police launched probe into the incident following a complaint about theft of idols was lodged this morning.

A manhunt operation has begun to trace the culprits who allegedly looted the temple.
