Badlapur (Thane Dist., Maharashtra): Mr. Sudarshan Joshi, a member of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) had gone to the market in the evening on Republic Day. He observed that a vegetable vendor, named Bambhulkar, was selling plastic flags. Mr. Joshi explained to him about the insult of National Flag and requested him to hand over the flags; but Bambhulkar and his family started threatening Mr. Joshi. Mr. Joshi showed them a copy of the order issued by the Government in this regard but Bambhulkar tore off that order and threw it on the road. When Mr. Joshi realized that Bambhulkar was not ready to listen; he took out his cell phone to inform the police station; but the vendor threw even the phone on the road. A car was about to pass over the phone and the car-driver admonished Mr. Joshi and said, “Why do you want to do all this? I know him (the vendor) very well. Do you want to get beaten up?” He started talking in threatening language. (Will such people, who lack patriotism, do anything for the welfare of the Nation? – Editor SP)
After some time, Mr. Joshi could contact the police station and the police reached the place of incident. As they reached, Bambhulkar told all lies and told the police that Joshi had gone to him asking for cardboard and papers. Before police reached there, Bambhulkar hid his stock of plastic flags and the torn Govt. circular. Mr. Joshi, however, explained everything to the police who asked Bambhulkar to return the flags. He returned only 2 flags to the police. The police also advised Mr. Joshi that there was no witness to take his side; therefore, they could not do anything in the matter; still if any action was required to be taken, they would take it. Mr.Joshi said that he would take advice from his elders.
On the same day, in the morning, Mr. Joshi and Mrs. Rashmi Prabhu, another member of HJS had gone to the market to guide the sellers of flags. In a shop called ‘Shivaram General Stores’, there were caps, hand-bands, bangles etc. in tri-colour for sale; therefore, the HJS members explained to the owner of the shop, Mr. Pandav. He, however, opposed and refused to give the material. The members warned him that they would inform the police if he did not stop insult of National Flags. Still Mr. Pandav refused. Mrs. Prabhu went to the police station and informed the police. Staff from the Intelligence Department along with HJS members went to the shop and confiscated all the material asking Mr. Pandav to report to the police station. Later, Mr. Pandav reached the police station along with Mr. Solse, a local municipal councilor. Mr. Suresh Angadi, a senior police inspector of the police station explained to him everything after which Mr. Pandav rendered apology. Mr. Solse also explained to Mr. Pandav about the law.
