Missionary John Chau wanted to establish ‘Kingdom of Jesus’ in North Sentinel island

Port Blair : American national, John Allen Chau, who was killed in an attack by the Sentinelese tribe on Andaman and Nicobar’s North Sentinel Island, is said to have escaped the first attack on the second last visit to the island.

As per reports, the 27-year-old had earlier spent 48 hours on the island and was struck by an arrow but was saved as the arrow hit the bible he was holding against his chest. However, he fell to the other arrow shot at him on November 17.

Further, Chau had written in his journal that he had gone to the island to “establish the kingdom of Jesus on the island”. He had also asked in his journal to not blame the natives if he was killed. However, a day before visiting the island, he had written, “God, I don’t want to die.”

In one of his other letters, he had written, “You guys might think I’m crazy in all this but I think it’s worth it to declare Jesus to these people.” The family of the deceased man said that they forgave those who killed him. They said that he was “a beloved son, brother, uncle, and best friend to us” while “to others, he was a Christian missionary, a wilderness EMT, an international soccer coach, and a mountaineer”.

He was also considered a Christian missionary and had written in his journal to “not be angry” if he is killed at the hands of the tribesmen. He had urged the people to ‘live their lives in obedience’. “This is not a pointless thing – the eternal lives of this tribe are at hand and I can’t wait to see them around the throne of God worshiping in their own language as Revelations 7:9-10 states,” he added.
