Himachal Assembly passes resolution to declare Cow as ‘Rashtramata’

If BJP rules Himachal Pradesh can pass such type of resolution, then why Central Govt can’t bring out law that completely bans of slaughter of cows and cattle ? – Editor, Hindujagruti

Dharmashala : The Himachal Pradesh assembly on Thursday passed a resolution to declare cow as the ‘rashtra mata’ or the mother of the nation. The move comes shortly after the BJP ruled Uttrakhand became the first state to demand such a mandate earlier this year in September.

According to a report in The Times of India, the resolution tabled by Congress MLA Anirudh Singh received support of the ruling BJP legislators and the assembly is now set to forward the demand to the Centre.

The law-makers in the state emphasized the holy animal is far placed from the ambit of the political and is not bound to “any caste, creed or religion.”

Singh said that there is a need for such a move because people abandon the sacred animal after it stops giving milk and there was a need to appreciate its “huge contribution to humanity”.

He also demanded for laws that regulate the growing incidences of cow vigilantism and mob lynching in the state. The MLAs also urged the government to promote a local cow breed, which is being renamed as ‘Gauri’, the report said. Giving the example of Rajasthan, the legislators also sought a separate cow ministry in the state.
