MLAs from all parties oppose action against places of worship : Chairman of Legislative Assembly asks for explanation from the concerned officer
Success of fight given by Hindus with unity
Mumbai: The Chairman of Legislative Assembly (LA) Mr. Dilip Valse-Patil has issued an order to the Government that it should seek explanation from the concerned officer regarding action against religious places in the municipal area by construing wrong meaning of the verdict passed by the Supreme Court. He has also asked to submit a memorandum in the House in this matter within two days after investigating the facts. He was talking on the issue of objection raised by all political parties against the action taken by Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) against religious places.
As Congress MLA Baba Siddiqui got an opportunity to present the topic as a special matter, he said, “The Supreme Court has given directions to prepare policy on religious places. The Commissioner of Mumbai Municipal Corporation has misconstrued the meaning of this direction and has started demolition of all religious places using the name of the Chief Minister. The Government should clarify its policy in this serious matter. Mr. Bala Nandgaonkar, the group leader of MNS said, “The Government should take the matter seriously as people have taken to the roads. The Commissioner of MMC has no time for other things; but has time only for taking such action. We will not allow the Commissioner to sit in his office. The Chief Minister (CM) should immediately call the Commissioner and take a decision.”
Mr. Ravindra Vaykar, a Shiv Sena MLA said, “Taking action against places of worship will lead to creating disharmony among the citizens. It is condemnable that the Commissioner has been working along with his officers and workers for the past few days on a war footing. The bullying of the Commissioner should be thwarted.”
Mr. Eknath Khadase, the Opposition leader said, “The decision of the Court taken in case of religious places on 7th December 2010 does not stipulate any time limit; even then the Commissioner has started action against places of worship constructed in the year 1964 and onwards. This order should be immediately withdrawn. No action should be taken till the State Government does not finalize its policy.” After this, the Chairman issued the above order. The Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar agreed to present the facts on collecting information from the MMC Commissioner.
The Chairman of LA Dilip Valse-Patil said, “If the officers are not attending to the phone calls of the elected representatives of the people, not listening to what their viewpoint is, it is wrong. The Government should issue orders to all its officers in this regard.” (How can the rulers give good governance to the citizens if they are unable to inculcate a sense of duty among its officers? – Editor SP)
