All Hindus can enter temples: Shankaracharya

Bhubaneswar: Dwarka Shankaracharya Swami Swarupananda Saraswati on Friday said all Hindus, irrespective of caste, should be allowed entry into all temples, but strongly objected to Hindus of foreign origin especially under the Iskcon fold from going inside temples.

He was responding to an ongoing controversy over dalits allegedly being denied entry to the Jagannath temple in Kendrapada district. Swarupananda Saraswati, who is here on a trip, said that all Hindus should have free access to temples, but nobody except the traditional priest of the concerned temple should enter the sanctum sanctorum.

"Nobody is denying entry any Hindu on caste considerations. Everybody should be treated equally," he said.
