Shivmogga (Karnataka): Hindu Janajagruti Samiti organised a special lecture program on the occasion of Ugadi (Hindu New Year) on the 4th of April 2011 at Mastikatte for the benefit of the devout Hindus. Mr. Prasanna Kamath HJS Spokesperson gave the lecture explaining the Spiritual significance of Ugadi. He explained that the Universe was formed on this very day. He explained that as to how the trees get new leaves during Ugadi setting off a change of season. Compared to this there is no spiritual or natural significance behind celebrating New Year on the 1st day of January every year which just happens to be change of calendar and nothing else. Hand bills printed by the Samiti were distributed on the occasion.
