Yeotmal (Maharashtra):The State Government has made amendments to the anti-superstitions Bill presented in the year 2005. The new Act will not impose ban on Hindus for performing ‘puja’ and religious ceremonies. The provisions in clause 13 objected by Hindus, have been modified. (The State Govt. has been claiming that it has carried out changes in the draft of the Bill; but why is it not presenting the modified Bill before people? If the rulers keep changes made in both the drafts before the people, there will be transparency in the dealings; but they are not doing so; therefore, the information about no changes in the earlier draft received from reliable sources in Mantralaya, seems to be true ! – Editor SP)

Mr. Shivajirao Moghe, the Minister for Social Justice assured the members of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) who called on him at his residence that the Act would be passed only after holding discussions on the Bill in Legislative Assembly (LA) . (The rulers are misleading citizens by promising ANiS to pass the said Act whereas they are promising HJS members that the the Act would be passed only after holding discussions. Hindus should not believe in the promises given by rulers and intensify their agitations ! – Editor SP)

A representation was submitted to Moghe opposing the Act. Mr. Shrikant Pisolkar of HJS said, “The State Government is trying to thrust this Act upon Hindus by passing it one-sidedly. Hindus are, therefore, expressing their anger. Only in Vidarbha, 5 demonstrations were held in the last week. The Government should, therefore, pay attention to views of Hindus on the said Bill and should not hurry to take decision in this matter.” H. B. P. Prabhudas Shirbhate Maharaj, Mr. Rajendra Gaikwad, city-chief of Shiv Sena for Yeotmal, Mr. Ravi Deshpande and Professor Anant Atravalkar of HJS were present on the occasion.

People should oppose the Act in lawful manner ! – Sree Dnyaneshwarpadashrit  H. H. Swami Govind Devgiri Maharaj, Pune

The ‘faith eradication’ Bill being presented again and again by changing its name like ‘Eradication of Human sacrifice, sexual exploitation, inhuman and dreadful acts Bill’ is actually superfluous because the existing laws are capable of taking action against those causing mental, physical and financial loss to anyone.  The power assigned to ‘Vigilance Officer’ in the new Act for conducting inquiry, confiscation etc. is likely to be misused to oppress innocent people. It can even be misused for destruction of religious institutions and mutt-mandir of Hindus. The sacrificial fire for getting enough rain and some religious rites for the welfare of people can also be in danger. The people in power can misuse it for political vendetta. It is, therefore, necessary that the Act is opposed with unity. I am strongly opposing this proposed Bill and appeal to people to oppose the Bill in lawful manner.
