Citizens catch the thief !

Mapusa (Goa):Thieves are not at all afraid of police department in the State. A thief entered Sri Rashtroli Mandir during the day although the Mandir is within stone’s throw away from Mapusa Police Station. Fortunately, alert citizens caught hold of the thief and handed him over to the police. Mr. Dilip Aroskar saw the thief entering the temple in the afternoon. He asked some questions to the thief when he tried to attack Mr. Aroskar.  Luckily for him, Mr. Akshay Ashok Salgaonkar reached there and they caught hold of the thief. The crowd gathered in the temple and Mr. Rajesh Kant Naik, the President of the ‘Devasthan’ called up the police and handed over the thief to them. The name of the thief is Babu Nair.

Unpardonable carelessness by police in conducting inquiry of the thief !

After the thief was nabbed and handed over to the police, they did not check his bag. When the citizens asked the police to check the bag, it was checked. Many duplicate keys, few hotel bills were found in his bag. Few citizens said that police were not interested in finding out details of the hotels or whether his accomplices were there.

Police makes no note of the patrolling conducted by them in a register maintained for the purpose

A register was kept to make note in it about the rounds taken by the police patrolling the area; but on most of the days, the police have not made any note which shows that the police do not take rounds in the night for patrolling. Citizens are most unhappy with the working of the police.

Citizens of Mapusa have congratulated Mr. Dilip Aroskar and Mr. Akshay Salgaonkar for showing bravery in catching the thief. Gomantak Mandir and Dharmik Sanstha has also lauded these youth.

Citizens should arrange to protect the temples since we can’t rely on the Government ! – Mr. Jayesh Thali, Mandir Mahasangh

Panaji – People now feel that they cannot rely on the police and the Government. If the citizens were not alert in Mapusa, the thief would have robbed the temple and run away. Rather than relying on the Government, citizens should now become alert and protect their temples. The above views were expressed by Mr. Jayesh Thali, the Goa State Coordinator of Gomantak Mandir and Dharmik Sanstha Mahasangh. Recently, Sri Parashuram Mandir at Kankon was robbed of things worth lakhs of rupees and now, this incident has occurred in Mapusa. Home Minister Ravi Naik should own the responsibility of incidents of thefts and resign from his post. Temples should be given compensation for the loss and a security squad should be engaged at taluka levels for the safety of temples. Mahasangha had given a representation with the above demands on 12th January 2011; but the Government has not accepted the demands; therefore, Mahasangha registered its protest in the matter.
