Karnataka : The Karnataka Government had formed a committee to oversee the administration and financial affairs of famous Melukote CheluvanarayanaSwamy Temple which is revered by lakhs of devotees. This one sided action of the Government was questioned by the priest of the temple Mr. Anand Alwar in the Karnataka High Court. Mr. Alwar petitioned that the Government had no rights to form such committee and the committee formation was not transparent. This was countered by the Government which held that as per Hindu Endowments Acts the committee is transparent.

After hearing both the parties Justice B. S. Patil stayed the Government orders and instructed that till the case is disposed off by the single judge bench the Government shall not interfere in the administration or financial matters of the temple.
