Miraj: Theft of Rs. 6 lakhs in famous Sri Ambabai Temple
June 16, 2011
Jyeshtha Krushna Pratipada, Kaliyug Varsha 5113
Miraj (Maharashtra): Theft in Sri Ambabai Temple which is more than 400 years old, was brought to light early morning today. The robbers have parted with 9 kg of silver and 50 grams of gold, the market price of which would be about RS. 5,97,000/-. There have been incidents of theft reported in temples at Panchmukhi Mandir in Sangli, a temple at Wayfale in Tasgaon taluka during past few months. One more incident has created furor among the devotees and pro-Hindu activists.
Shri. Dhondiram Gurav, the priest opened the temple at 5.00 a.m. when he realized occurrence of theft. The theft could have occurred between 2.30 a.m. and 4.00 a.m. The robbers entered the temple by breaking open the iron gate on the left side of the temple, the iron door in front of the main idol and one more inner door was broken to enter the sanctum sanctorum. Ornaments, silver decorations of the idol were stolen which weighed about 20 kgs. along with the wood. It would not have been possible for one person to lift so much of weight; therefore, it indicates that the no. of thieves was more.
BJP municipal councilors Mr. Pandurang Kore and Makarand Deshpande, Chairman of the Standing Committee Mr. Suresh Avati, Mr. Sudhir Avasare of Sri Shiva-pratishthan paid visit to the temple along with other pro-Hindu activists. Zonal police officer Mr. Balasingh Rajput told the reporters that it must be the handiwork of some petty thief. (To say such thing is misleading Hindus. How such huge items stolen from the temple could be handiwork of petty thieves? – Editor SP) Police patrolling is going on already; now it would be strengthened.” (Such superficial measures would not be of much effect. Many incidents of theft have taken place as also of damaging idols. If the culprits were nabbed and stringently punished in earlier cases, this incident would not have taken place. Police have, however, not solved any case so far; therefore, there is recurrence of such incidents ! – Editor SP)
Mr. Makarand Deshpande said in this context, “Congress – NCP is in power in this district and even in the State. Ordinary citizen was not safe in the Home Minister’s district; now, even temples are not secure.” One devotee made an appeal to the police to find out the ornaments to gain God’s grace.
Govt. should take prompt action against the miscreant ! – Mr. Madhusudan Kulkarni, Sanatan Sanstha
The theft taking place on ‘Vat-Pournima’, the day of celebration for Hindus, in Sri Ambabai Temple is like an attack on Hindus. Temples are the highest source of divine energy. Millions of Hindus have faith in temples. Incidents of theft in temples are condemnable and Sanatan Sanstha strongly protests against the same. The Government should take prompt action against the miscreants involved in the theft and give stringent punishment.
Highlights
One police officer gave his opinion that it was not possible to provide security to all temples and the temple managements should arrange for the same. (Would he dare to say such thing about worship places belonging to followers of other Sects? Lack of unity among Hindus is the cause of police making such statements and hurt religious sentiments of Hindus. Tomorrow, these police may ask the citizens to take care of themselves; then why would we need police machinery? – Editor SP)
