Warning of agitation by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti to the Censor Board

Mumbai: The dialogues  in the film ‘Double Dhamaal’ produced by ‘Reliance Entertainment’ and ‘Maruti International’ are ridiculing Hindu Deities Sriram, Sita and Hanuman. Since Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) had opposed it, the ridiculing portion in the film is going to be deleted. It has been observed that Hindus’ religious sentiments are repeatedly hurt in this way and therefore the Samiti has given a warning to the Censor Board of starting an agitation against it. Hindus are still furious and are still registering their protests. When Mr. Shivaji Vatkar, HJS coordinator of Mumbai, Thane and Raigad contacted the Chief Distributor of ‘Reliance Entertainment’, Mr. Sagar Patil, he said, “The managers of the theatres were being asked to delete the ridiculing portion from the film.” Hearing this Mr. Vatkar said, “The ridiculous portion also should necessarily be deleted from the telecast through satellite. So better give us the names of the theatres which have deleted the said portion and give instructions to those which have not done so.” Patil has agreed to do that.

Mrs. Varsha Thakar contacted, Ms. Pankaja Thakur, officer of the Censor Board. Mrs. Thakar said, “It has been observed that the Scrutiny Board gives approval to the films hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindus repeatedly. When a representation is forwarded to the Censor Board regarding that, the answer given to us is, ‘Once the approval certificate is given by the Board nothing can be done, we shall ask our seniors to take care’.  Many a times when the ridiculing part is brought to the notice of the Board, it refuses to accept it saying ‘that is not ridiculing at all’. When we give the same information to the viewers, Distributors and Producers, they agree to that. Many have deleted the ridiculing part also; but the Censor Board does seem to act. So HJS might have to agitate protesting against the Censor Board one day.”

Ridiculing dialogues

Actor Satish Kaushik has a role of a hooligan giving discourse wearing saffron clothes in the film. The viewers of the film might reduce the respect for Saints and Spirituality seeing the actor’s rudraksh mala and his entire attire.

Dialogue between Kaushik and a milkman attending his discourse

Satish Kaushik : Sriram means the hero in Ramayan was expelled (Tadipar) for 14 years in the first deal only. Sitamata too had gone with Him to give Him company. Suddenly the villain Ravan kidnapped Sitamata from outdoor. But at that time only, Hanumanji Maharaj, in supporting role made his entry in ‘Dabangg’ style. Catching a bus he reached Lanka and he took to vastraharan of Ravan.
Milknan : Why are you mixing Ramayan and Mahabharat?
Satish Kaushik : You are the milkman in this area, is it not? If you can mix water with the milk the why could not I mix Ramayan with Mahabharat?

Protest: Denigration of Ramayan & Mahabharat in ‘Double Dhamaal’ movie

June 26, 2011

Jyeshtha Krushna Dashami, Kaliyug Varsha 5113

Bollywood is at it again, belittling and trivialising some of the sacred holy texts in Hindu Dharma ( Mahabharata and Ramayana ) and also Hindu saints. Bollywood movie ‘Double Dhamaal’ has engaged in trivialising Sri Ram and Sita by naming the characters after them for engaging in a humorous banter between the characters and also addressing insultingly one of Hindu Dharma’s most sacred, Sati Draupadi. There is also reference to a character in the movie who is supposed to be a criminal pretending to be a Hindu sage to show that it is the norm.

All these trivialisations of Hindu dharma is nothing but utter disregard to the sentiments of millions of Hindus worldwide who practice their faith. It has hurt religious sentiments of billions of Hindus across the world and all Hindus should protest lawfully against ‘Double Dhamaal’ and also Hindus should boycott this movie. The film is directed by Indra Kumar and and produced by Ashok Thakeria and Indra Kumar.

  1. Four characters (Ritesh Deshmukh, Boman Irani, Javed Jaffery,  Arshad Warsi) in the movie in order to get sympathy from Sanjay Dutt and Mallika Sherawat (who are shown as couple) go to an extent saying that the couple is like Ram and Sita Jodi and they 4 are like brothers of Ram (i.e Sanjay Dutt). To that Mallika Sherawat says that Ram had only 3 brothers and you are 4. To that, they mention that in that case consider us as 5 pandavas and yourself as draupadi.
  2. A character (Satish Kaushik) shown as an underworld Don starts portraying himself as a sadhu saying that there is no respect in being a Don. Then he starts giving a lecture on Ramayana in a language which is of type of Don taking names of Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman in a very disrespectful manner.
