Panaji (Goa): The medium of instruction row in Goa has now reached cyberspace. A group of youngsters-through Facebook-have started inviting Goan youth to attend a convention on the medium of instruction row at Junta House in Panaji on June 4.
The page, titled ‘Digambar Kamat, get well soon’ on Facebook, has been founded by son of noted Konkani writer Pundalik Naik, Yugank Naik.
The group comprises over 1100 members. "Invites have been sent to them virtually, and we are also contacting young artistes from different groups and organizers of youth festivals to participate in the convention. Let’s see how many of them turn up," said Naik.
This convention is being organized to provide a platform to the Goan youth to express their opinions on the medium of instruction issue. "Our aim is to express the voices of the youth of Goa who have studied and are still studying in Goa, as they are in the best position to talk about the issue," said Naik.
Stating that they are not talking about a particular culture or language, Naik said, "We know how this decision will affect the people. I make a genuine request to all the youngsters to attend the convention."
Goa has already witnessed a number of agitations after the chief minister Digambar Kamat-led government announced its decision to provide grants to English medium primary schools. Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) had already announced a ‘Goa bandh’ on June 6 to protest the government’s decision, with full support from the BJP.
