Delegation of warkaris and HJS meet Dy. CM and Minister for Social Justice : Both assure to pass the Act taking into account everyone’s viewpoint
Mumbai: It was learnt by pro-Hindus that the State Government was planning to present the same old controversial Anti-Superstitions Bill prepared in the year 2005 in the forthcoming session of Legislative Assembly; therefore, representatives of warkaris and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) called on the Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Minister for Social Justice Shivajirao Moghe. They were told by the HJS representatives that the Act would create obstacles in following ‘Dharmacharan’ for Hindus; therefore, Hindus strongly opposed the same.
Dy. CM Ajit Pawar had held a meeting on 19th July in this connection when he had asked the Government officials to make available draft of the proposed Act to representatives of pro-Hindu organizations for obtaining suggestions from them; but the officers tried to avoid giving the draft. Yesterday, in this context, Mr. Shivaji Vatkar, the district coordinator of HJS for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad, advocate Veerendra Ichalkaranjikar and other members called on the Dy. CM.
Mr. Vatkar said, “In the absence of the draft of the proposed Act, it will not be possible to give our opinion on the said Bill. 80% of the residents of Maharashtra are religious and they oppose this Act now and will oppose it even in future. There is no need for passing such Act as it is not going to benefit the Government in any way.” Mr. Pawar said on this, “We don’t want to hurt anyone. We want to pass this Act after giving due consideration to everyone’s view. I will arrange to give you a copy which you study and then meet me.” After this, a copy of the draft of the proposed Act was made available to HJS members.
Govt. once again promised to make amendments in the Act
It was observed by the members of HJS that the controversial draft was the same as prepared in the year 2005. H. B. P. Rameshwar Maharaj Shastri of warkari Prabodhan Samiti and delegation of HJS met Minister for Social Justice Moghe in his office and told him that no change was made to the old draft of the proposed Act; it is controversial as it would bring ban on religious ceremonies as per the draft made in the year 2005. People of Maharashtra were against the Bill. HJS had collected signatures of thousands of people protesting against the Act. warkaris also strongly opposed the same. In view of the above, the Act should not be passed. The Minister promised them saying, “We are in no hurry. We are going to consider views of all. You give us amendments to the draft and we will carry out the same.”
