Pro-Hindus protesting against ‘Communal Violence Bill 2011’

Bengaluru (Karnataka): On 24th of July 2011 Hindu Janajagruti Samiti organised a massive sit in protest in front of the Town Hall to protest against the proposed "Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence  Bill 2011" by the Central Government. The protest was headed by the state spokesperson, Mr. Mohan Gowda,  district coordinator, Mr. Chandra Moger and 300 of activists including ladies. Many pro-Hindu organisations like Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bhajarang Dal, Sriram sena organisations also joined the protest.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Mohan Gowda said that the Central government is trying to bring in this bill to appease the minorities and punish the majority community. He added that Mrs. Sonia Gandhi is the brain behind the Bill and the committee had Anti Hindus like Teesta Setalvad, Harsh Mander, Asgar Ali and others from non Hindu community. The Bill considers Hindus as culprits without any reason and any articles written by them, lectures made against the minority communities will be treated as an offence and they will be punished up to a period of 3 years or would be penalized. Thus they will be deprived of the Freedom of expression which they  have been given by the Constitution. On the contrary when the minority community attack the Hindus the law will not come to the rescue of the Hindus. Government permission will be required to take action against the minorities during such instances depriving of speedy justice. This is a clear case of unequal justice.

Mr. Gowda added that there is an effort to make the Media and the Government officials  slaves of the minority community through various features enacted in this Bill. Further the Central Government can use Article 355 to consider a State having communal riots as one having ‘Internal Unrest’  and dismiss it. Further the Central Government would form a 7 member committee for the protection of minorities. This committee will have 4 member  of judges including the President and the vice President from the minority community. In case of communal riots district and state level committees would be formed to settle the losses of the minorities. There is no such reference to the majority community. This is purely to appease the minorities he added. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti  has launched a State wide campaign against this draconian bill.
