Opposition by HJS Hindus should protest, in lawful manner, against the play for attacking their seats of worship

Pune (Maharashtra) : There is disgraceful denigration of Hindu Deities like Bhagavan Shankar, Parvati and Sree Vishnu in the Marathi play titled ‘Aaltun Paaltun’ written by Abhiram Bhadkamkar and directed by Samir Vidwans. Lack of unity among Hindus is the cause of such open denigration of their seats of worship. A representation was given to the producer of this play by HJS; but police didn’t allow them to hold demonstrations against the play. As a result, the play, attacking Hindus’ seats of worship was staged. (Would the police dare to grant permission and provide protection to such play in respect of followers of other religion? It is the meek stand taken by the police which is leading to Muslim insolence; but who will be responsible if Hindus lose their patience? – Editor SP) On 10th July, members of HJS met the main hero of the play, Mr. Prasad Oak and made a demand to omit the portion of the play that ridiculed Hindu Deities. Mr. Oak said, “I only play a character in this play. Whatever the director instructs, we have to follow. The play has been granted clearance by the Censor Board. You can have discussions with the producers of this play.’

A show of the play was staged on 7th August at Bal Gandharva Theatre. Before the show at this Theatre, a delegation of HJS called on its manager, Mr. Paradeshi and requested him to cancel the show. An application was given to the police seeking permission for holding peaceful demonstrations against the play; instead police issued notice to HJS members under section 149 refusing to grant permission. (Is it not perverted justice of the police to issue notices to those who complain about hurting of their religious sentiments ? – Editor SP)

Few objectionable things from the play-

1. Bhagavan Sri Vishnu and Parvati have been shown as the narrators of the play.
2. Sri Vishnu says, “Today’s man has become ‘metrosexual’.”
3. Parvati says, “You call Bhagavan Shankar as ‘Bholenath’ but He always wraps Him around with a female serpent instead of male serpent.”
4.  In another incident, Parvati says, “Whole Earth is deteriorating and your Department is of no use.”
5. A couple has been shown having bath and Sri Vishnu and Lakshmi are looking at them.
