Bicholi (Goa): Polluted atmosphere in the country today is due to ‘English’ mentality. More than 60 years have passed since Bharat became independent; yet the politicians and the people in the country are still carrying the burden of slavery. It is prevalent more in the educational field. Self-respect should manifest through the mothertongue. It is a sort of corruption to oppose mothertongue as a medium of instruction (MoI) for securing the  votes of Christian community. It is very essential that the decision has to be changed taken by Goa government favouring English as MoI in primary level as early as possible. A lesson will have to be taught to those responsible, said Mr. Kamlesh Bandekar, Goa state chief of ‘Bharat Swabhiman’.He was addressing the supporters of mothertongue in the seminar organised by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) at Hirabai Zantye Auditorium, Bicholi.

Mr. Kanta Patnekar, Headmaster of Sri Hanuman Vidyalay, Valpoi; Mr. Chandrakant Kenkre, senior freedom fighter; Mr. Jayesh Thali, state convenor of Gonamtak Mandir and Dhaarmik Santha Mahasangh; Mr. Sangam Borkar of Sanatan Sanstha and Mr. Govind Chodankar  of HJS were on the dais. Speeches delivered by speakers were quite thought provoking.

Mr. Chadrakant Kenkre appealed to all Hindus at this moment to educate their wards in Marathi and teach a lesson to the Goa Government . Mr. Sangam Borkar said that we have forgotten the Mothertongue akin to ‘Kasturi’ (Musk). Mr. Kanta Patnekar appealed to destroy the conspiracy of Goa government to support English as MoI at primary level. Mr. Jayesh Thali said that we need politicians starting Marathi and Konkani schools in Portugal.  Mr. Govind Chodankar said that it is time to bar English from the whole country.

The seminar was attended by more than 200 people. The following resolutions were passed in the seminar :
1. Stop the grant prescribed for the English Primary Sachools.
2. Total education must be imparted in mothertongue in Goa.
3. Government transactions and circulars should be published in mothertongue only.
4. Assembly affairs should be in mothertonguea and nameplates of Government offices and Establisments should compulsorily be in mothertongue.
