Action taken in the night !
Karnataka Government, taking cognizance of Supreme Court’s decision, had declared more than 5000 temples in the State as unauthorized. More than 200 temples were demolished earlier. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) along with other organizations had staged agitations against this action and forced the Government to stop such demolition; but the State Government has re-started the activity claiming that it was doing so as per the verdict passed by the Supreme Court. (When the Govt. stopped demolition due to agitations by Hindus, did it not amount to contempt of Court? Will the Govt. give explanation as to why it could not withhold implementation of the Court’s order now? – Editor SP) It was stated that the time limit set by the Court was ending in two days, therefore, such action was taken. (Does the Karnataka Govt. show similar promptness in implementing other directions of the Supreme Court? – Editor SP)

Huge deployment of manpower for demolition !
There was a plan to demolish 20 temples; but two of them obtained stay-order from the High Court; therefore, could not be demolished. For this destructive drive, 3 JCBs, 4 dumpers, 7 tractors, 30 workers, 50 other employees and 300 policemen were deployed besides many officers. (The Govt. keeping such tight arrangement for demolition of Hindu temples, does not seem to find unauthorized mosques of Muslims and take such action against them or it is, probably, scared of Muslims. – Editor SP)
HJS to start agitations once again
While passing the verdict, the Supreme Court had stated that ‘first such prayer houses should be made authorized if possible, or should be shifted and if that is not possible, they should be demolished after discussing the matter with concerned local citizens and religious people.’ The Government, however, misconstrued the meaning of the order and gave directions to demolish temples. Later, the Government tried to rectify its mistake and stopped demolition; but it is committing the same mistake now and will have to face serious consequences of the same. The Government should take further action only after discussions. Hindu Janajagruti samiti (HJS) will once again start agitations if the Government fails to do so. – Mr. Mohan Gauda, spokesperson of HJS for Karnataka State
