Late M. F. Husain paintings’ exhibition at Hema Malini's New York dance performance canceled after protest campaign initiated by HJS and FHA !

O Hindus, let us pay gratitude towards God for this success !

USA: Forum for Hindu Awakening has learned from the organizers (SAMAA) of Late M. F. Husain’s paintings’ exhibition at Hema Malini’s 1st October New York dance concert that they had canceled the exhibition upon receiving emails from protesting Hindus. The organizers wrote, “On behalf of SAMAA, we apologize to all of you if we hurt your sentiments. Hemaji was unaware of such an exhibition. As soon as we received your emails, we cancelled the exhibition. As soon as Hemaji came to know about the exhibition, she totally opposed it and did not want to be any part of it.”

The organizers also forwarded us confirmation from officials of New York University (NYU) Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, where the concert was held, that no painting of M. F. Husain was displayed at the center. The NYU Skirball Center’s Senior Director, Michael Harrington wrote, “It is our understanding that no work of the artist in question was displayed at either the Skirball Center or Kimmel Center on October 1.” As well, Jonathan Ross of NYU wrote, “To add to Michael's email, the university will not be making a formal statement, but I can certainly assert that as per our agreement on Saturday, no works by MF Hussain were displayed at the Kimmel or Skirball Centers at NYU.”

On 1st October 2001, FHA had received a complaint about the exhibition to be held during the post concert reception that evening. When HJS received this information from FHA, HJS also appealed all devout Hindus in India to protest lawfully against the SAAMA and NY Univ. Due to protest by Hindus, the organisers canceled exhibition of Anti-Hindu painter M F Husain's paintings.

Considering Hema Malini's public official standing (as an Ex-MP and current official of India’s political party, the Bharatiya Janata Party) among Hindus in India and abroad, Hindus were urged to reach out to Bharatiya Janata Party contacts and Hema Malini, to request her to perform only if this exhibition is canceled. Within hours, many Hindus had promptly protested by email and phone to the organizers, and tried to reach Hema Malini via Bharatiya Janata Party contacts. Despite the short notice, a Caribbean Hindu gentleman, Patanjali Rambrich had also stood outside the concert venue, giving out flyers to the concert goers, creating awareness about the issue. Today, upon receiving the news of this exhibition not being held due to protests, Hindus worldwide are paying gratitude to the divine for this welcome news during their observance of the auspicious Navratri (nine-night-long Hindu observance of fasting and devotion unto Divine Energy or Shakti).

I am as pained as you are by the events that took place in New York on the 1st of October, 2011.

During the many discussions I had with SAAMA, the organisers of the event, prior to my departure to New York, I was never given any indication of clubbing my dance performance with MF Hussain’s paintings.   I was indeed shocked and in fact withdrew from my dance commitment if my show was spoken of in the same breath as that of Hussain’s paintings.

Ms. Simmi Bhatia, the organiser, on my demand, withdrew the paintings.  I could then present my program of classical dances alongwith my daughters to the delight of audiences which included many dignitaries including the Consul General of India, Shri. Prabhu Dayal.

Let me reassure one and all that my birth, upbringing and innate faith as a Hindu can never be questioned and aberrations like the present one will in fact strengthen my belief and commitment to the glory of Hinduism.

HEMA.

To: FHA

This is to inform all of the people who have complained and protested about MF Husain's paintings exhibition on 1st Oct 2011 in New York that there were no paintings of MF Husain exhibited on 1st Oct 2011 at Skirball center for Hemaji's performance.

On behalf of SAMAA, we apologize to all of you if we hurt your sentiments. Hemaji was unaware of such an exhibition. As soon as we received your emails, we cancelled the exhibition. As soon as Hemaji came to know about the exhibition, she totally opposed it and did not want to be any part of it.

The paintings were supposed to have been exhibited at the reception after the performance. These paintings were of Mother Teresa and the money from the sale was supposed to have gone to SAMAA which is a not for profit organization promoting arts and music from South Asia. We had no intention of hurting anyone's feelings and never realized that this would be a controversial issue because Hemaji was performing.

I am attaching below the email from Skirball center which also reiterates that no exhibition of  M F Husain took place on 1st Oct at Skirball center for the performance or reception. You can confirm with the center on this.

To add to Michael's email, the university will not be making a formal statement, but I can certainly assert that as per our agreement on Saturday, no works by Late MF Husain were displayed at the Kimmel or Skirball Centers at NYU.

Appeal to devout Hindus by Forum for Hindu Awakening

Namaskar.

We have just received a complaint about a reception to be held this evening (of 1st October) in New York after a dance performance at 7:30 pm US EST (5 am IST, Sunday 2nd October) by actress Hema Malini, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ex-MP and Vice President. The event to be held in NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts will include an exhibition of M. F. Husain's paintings from Aicon Gallery.

Several of M. F. Husain paintings and serigraphs from Aicon Gallery are extremely denigrating, for example :
1. SHIV LINGHAM (http://www.aicongallery.com/artists/m-f-husain/#/images/17/)

We have written to the event organizers, requesting cancellation of the exhibition by M. F. Husain who has blatantly denigrated Hindu Deities. Considering Hema Malini's public official standing among Hindus in India and abroad, we request her to perform only if this exhibition is canceled.

We appeal to all supporters of Hindu Dharma to register their peaceful and prompt protests to :

1. Event organizers : Tel: 732-331-6440, 212-350-3101, 212-350-3101, Email: [email protected]
2. Venue: New York University, Skirball Center, Email: [email protected], [email protected]

Please request the following contacts to persuade Hema Malini to perform at this event only if the exhibition of M. F. Husain's paintings is cancelled.

1. BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) (country code 91) : Tel: 011-23005700, SMS: +91-9223170022, Fax: 011-23005787, Email: [email protected]
2. BJP President (Nitin Gadkari) : Tel: 011-23013127, 011-23011027, Fax: 011-23005787
