Take action against those playing with lives of COVID-19 patients : Arogya Sahayya Samiti

Serving inferior food containing larvae to coronavirus patients; the concerned organisation will be re-investigated

Take stern action against the organisation that plays with the lives of coronavirus patients and authorities, who grant permission to such organisations, demands Arogya Sahayya Samiti

‘An isolation centre has been set up in the hostel for backward-class at Moshi in Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area. The ‘Tab Kitchen’, an organisation that supplies food to the patients at the site was allowed to do so even though it did not have a license to supply food. The larvae have been found in the food supplied by this organisation. However, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) imposed a fine of only Rs. 11,000 on the company and revoked the contract. In fact, according to the provisions of the law, a fine of Rs. 5 lakh should have been imposed on this organisation, and the director of the organisation was expected to be imprisoned for 6 months. Therefore, despite such a serious incident, why such a mild action was taken’; this question was raised by Mr. Chaitanya Tagade of ‘Arogya Sahayya Samiti’.

Mr. Tagade asked, “How did Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation award the contract to ‘Tab Kitchen’, which was not licensed to take up such a job in the first place ? What action has been taken against concerned officials ? All of these aspects are incomprehensible. It raises a doubt whether there was any collusion between the Director of the supplier company and the officials in the Municipal administration. However, this occurrence is very serious and it is like playing with the coronavirus patients’ lives. Therefore, strict action must be taken against the food supplier and the concerned officials of the Corporation, demanded Mr. Tagade.

The ‘Arogya Sahayya Samiti’ submitted a representation in this context to the Assistant Commissioner of Food Administration, Pune Circle 2 and 4, B.M. Thakur. Similarly, a statement addressed to Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar was handed over to the Additional Commissioner Ajit Pawar, on 28th October. In this regard, the Assistant Commissioner of Food and Drug Administration B.M. Thakur said that the inquiry was already conducted in this matter, in accordance with the law. However, the matter will be re-investigated and strict action would be taken against ‘Tab Kitchen’ if found guilty.
