Margao (Goa):  Mahendra Alvares of ‘Big Foot’ has organised an exhibition, from 15th to 27th November of Shri Ganesh idols made up of food grains. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has forwarded a memorandum to the Dy. Collector Mr. Dasharath Redkar demanding to stop the exhibition s and to take an action on Alvares for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. HJS also has made a complaint at Maina-Cutorim Police Station.

Memorandum says that it is improper to prepare Shri Ganesha idol from any material other than Shadu (clay). It is an insult to Shri Ganesh to make an idol using food grains. This act against Dharma and has hurt the religious feelings of Hindus. This kind of exhibition is nothing but an attempt to attract crowd of people by showing them something abnormal. To make idols of food grains is not a culture of Goa. Government of Goa has always been putting a ban on the sale of idols of plaster of Paris during ganesh festival times. The community too has ritually accepted this ban. Anything undertaken as per the spiritual science is always rewarding. Shri Ganesha’s blessings are always there when everything is done as per Dharmashastra (Science pertaining to Hindu Dharma). Since Hindus are tolerant anybody dares ridiculing their Deities. Is Alvares going to dare ridiculing the objects of faith of other religions? In fact Mahendra Alvares had hurt earlier the religious sentiments of Hindus by organising an exhibition of pictures showing Shri Ganesh playing cricket. This exhibition had damaged socially fabric. Alvares of ‘Big Foot’ is trying to play with Hindus’ feelings once again by organising the above exhibition.
