Russian couple gets married in Hindu tradition

Beltangady (Karnataka) : Everybody dreams of having a unique wedding, and if you were a Russian, this would surely be one of the most unique of all.Russian citizens, Alexiev Zelenin (39) and Polina Korniyenko (31) have come to India with a special mission – that is, to tie the nuptial knots. On Sunday, the couple entered marital life as per Hindu system at Ardhanareeshwara Temple at Indabettu near Bangadi in the taluk. Priest of the temple, Anand Bhat, solemnized the marriage. He was assisted by Satish. Alexiev has been the devotee of Lord Ganapati since the last 15 years, it is gathered. Limited guests were invited the marriage function, but the uniqueness of the occasion succeeded in making a thorough imprint on the minds those who attended the marriage.

Along with marriage function, Satyanarayana Puja, Naga Puja, and Mahapuja to the presiding deity, were performed on this occasion. Both the groom and the bride were dressed in Indian traditional attire. Community feast had also been arranged.Zelenin owns an animation production house in Russia. Polina works as finance manager for Pepsico. They entered into registered marriage in Russia on November 11, and travelled to India the next day to get married here. Their friend, Elena Fedosenko, who had hosted an exhibition on Bharatnatyam dance traditions in Mangalore, helped them in this direction.

Elena knew Deviprasad Rao, a native of Dakshina Kannada distict, and founder of Dev Art Management Pvt Ltd in Goa. Rao is a devotee of Lord Ardhanareeshwara, and on his suggestion, the couple planned to get married at this temple.The couple expressed satisfaction for having married as per Hindu customs. Alexiev said he is a devotee of Lord Ganapati, and holds Indian culture and belief systems in high esteem. He said that he did not want to get married in a grand function, but only wished the marriage to be solemnized in a holy atmosphere as per Hindu custom.
