Mangalore: The special police team led by Mangalore South inspector Venkatesh Prasanna received a major breakthrough in the Sukhanand murder case on Thursday with the arrest of the prime accused Akbar Kabeer (28) of Gurupur village. Police arrested him from a lodge in Sakleshpur town of Hassan district.
The police arrested another person Saleem (27) the owner of a local hotel in Sakleshpur, Hassan district who had harboured the accused Kabeer. According to police sources Kabeer is a notorious rowdy and was involved in six criminal cases in the past all of which were communally motivated offences.
While a detailed interrogation of the accused Kabeer is on, the preliminary questioning reveals the involvement of about 8 prsons in the actual act of committing the murder. In addition to these persons who have committed the offence, participation of several others in conspiring, assisting and sheltering the accused has also come into light. Efforts are on to trace all such persons. Both the accused have been brought to Mangalore and will be produced before the judicial magistrate after completion of their questioning.
