KASARGOD: Valsaraj, member of the Kumbla grama panchayat and a BJP leader, was stabbed by a group of people here at 9 pm on Monday. Valsaraj was returning home from work in his motorbike when he was attacked by a group of youths who followed him in two-wheelers.
Police said the assailants smeared chilly powder on his face before stabbing him. The incident occurred at Bekkur in Pratap Nagar. Valsaraj, who was seriously hurt in the attack, was rushed to the AJI Hospital in Mangalore. Police are yet to identify the assailants
Sangh Parivar activists lathicharged
Kasaragod (Kerala): Police today resorted to lathicharge on a group of Sangh Parivar activists as they tried to close down some shops during a day-long hartal in Mangalpady village limits near border town of Manjeshwaram to protest the attack on a local BJP leader. The trouble began when a few traders resisted activists’ attempts to close shops. Bus services between Kasaragod and Mangalore were suspended apprehending trouble, police said. The situation in the area was said to be normal now.
The hartal was observed to protest the stabbing of BJP Manjeshwaram area president and a ward member of the Mangalpady panchayat K Valsaraj (35) by a group of unidentified persons last night. The BJP leader, who sustained multiple injuries, is being treated in a Mangalore hospital, police said, adding an attempt to murder case had been registered. (Agencies)
