Belgaum (Karnataka) : Recently devotes and Hindu organisations prevented an attempt to demolish the Maruti Temple located in Brahmanagar on Khanapur Road. This has led to a tense situation in the area. The temple was to be demolished in order to lay down a water pipeline to provide water to the Vishveshwar Technical University.

Bowing to the opposition of the devotees the workers and officers who had come for the excavation work had to change the path of the pipeline.

To lay the pipeline there was no other option but to demolish the temple; so the workers had arranges a JCP crane for the purpose. As soon as the priest Prakash and devotees learnt of this they gathered there. They argued with the workers; as a result the workers fled from there. After sometime the contractor Prakash Ashtekar came there.  By this time Ramakant Kanduskar of Shri Ram Sena, Hanumant Majukar – District Chief for Shiv Sena and activists of Ganesh Yuvak Mandal had gathered there. They warned the contractor saying ‘if you to touch the temple then we will make you beg for water. After discussions, the contractor promised to lay the pipeline without causing any damage to the temple. After this the devotees calmed down.  Later activists of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti Mr. Girish Kulkarni and Mr. Sudhir Herekar met Police Inspector B. S. Bhalchandra and apprised him of the incident and demanded a detailed enquiry of this incident.
