Arogya Sahayya Samiti impact : ‘CT Scan Center’ refunds extra amount charged to 5 patients

The Government of Maharashtra has fixed rates for medical treatment and examination for coronavirus patients. Despite this, the ‘Kulkarni Nidan Diagnostic Center’ at Koparlhairane has violated the rules of the Government of Maharashtra and charged five people of the family of Jaideep Shedge, including himself, an extra amount of Rs 7,500 at the rate of Rs. 1,500 each for CT scans. The Arogya Sahayya Samiti has written to the concerned diagnostic centre asking them to take appropriate action and reimburse the extra amount to the Shedge family. Mr. Shedge said that he has raised his voice against injustice by taking inspiration from the online programs ‘Surajya Ki Or’ organised by ‘Arogya Sahayya Samiti’ and ‘Surajya Abhiyan’.

A total of 5 members of the Shedge family in Koparkhairane were coronavirus positive. Their CT scan reports clearly showed they were infected with a coronavirus, meaning they were also infected with pneumonia. However, they were charged Rs 4,000 instead of Rs 2,500 each. In other words, a total of Rs 7,500 was taken extra from 5 people at the rate of Rs 1,500 each. When Mr. Shedge sought the help of the Arogya Sahayya Samiti in this regard, the Samiti informed him of the Maharashtra Government’s ruling dated 24th September 2020 to charge Rs 2,500 for a CT scan of a corona patient. As per the guidance given by the Samiti, Mr. Shedge complained to the Kulkarni Nidan Diagnostic Center. While filing the complaint, Mr. Shedge attached all the documents including the doctor’s prescription for examination, his bill, the examination report and copy of the decision of the Government of Maharashtra. In the complaint, Mr. Shedge demanded the refund of the excess amount within 2 days. The ‘Arogya Sahayya Samiti’ sent all the documents to this diagnostic Centre and Instructed them to take immediate cognisance regarding Shedge’s complaint. According to the ‘Diagnostic Centre’ refunded Rs 7,500 to Mr. Shedge.

As per the decision of the Government of Maharashtra, it is mandatory to charge a fee of Rs 2,500 for a CT scan of the chest of a Coronavirus patient. Despite this, many common patients are being deceived by charging them extra rates for CT scans. Therefore, while conducting a CT scan of the chest and other treatments for corona, it should be ensured that the payment is being made as per the Government decision, appealed Arogya Sahayya Samit to all citizens.
