Theft in Chilai Devi temple, Sangli : goods worth Rs. 4.5 lakhs stolen

In Home Minister’s Sangli district, 3 incidents of theft occur in 3 temples in 3 days

Sangli (Maharashtra): Incidents of theft have occurred in last 3 days in 3 temples in Khanapur taluka of the district. Devotees are wondering about the efficiency of police as the thefts have occurred in the Home Minister’s district. All cases of theft taken place earlier are not yet resolved. It may be mentioned here that for the last 3 days, the Home Minister is in the district in connection with the elections; but he has not showed any concern about these incidents. This has created furor among devotees.  

1. In Chilai Devi Temple at Pare in Khanapur taluka, thieves have stolen a silver sheet weighing 8 kilograms, two silver lamps all together worth Rs. 4.42 lakhs. The incident came to light on Saturday morning and a complaint has been lodged by Mr. Shivaji Balasaheb Salunkhe with Vita Police Station.

2. On 26th January, it was found that robbers had stolen 3 silver crowns of Sri Khandoba worth Rs. 50,000. It was noticed at 12.00 noon on that day. Mr. Bhaskar Nathural Gujale has lodged a complaint with Vita Police Station in this regard. The temple is located in the central area in the village.

3. Two days earlier i.e. on 27th January, there was theft in Srimat Satyavrat Teertha Swami’s Mutt in ‘Gavbhag’ area near ‘Vishnu Ghat’ in Sangli. It is 375 years old Mutt and silver ornaments like silver mask, chains, idol, ‘paduka’ etc. worth Rs. 35,000/- were stolen from the Mutt.
