Mumbai : The famous ‘Kala Ghoda’ festival has started in Mumbai from Saturday. In this festival, pictures of ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu drawn by an artist named Ajanta Sen in denigrated manner were on exhibit. The activists of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) created awareness towards this issue among the organizers of the Festival and asked them to remove the pictures.

Many artists display their work in this festival and many of them denigrate Hindu Deities.  This year too, there was such denigration. One such artist named Ajanta Sen, had drawn all incarnations of Lord Sree Vishnu in the form of ‘Matsya, Kurma, Varah, Nrusimha, Waman, Parashuram, Shriram, Shrikrushna and future incarnation in the form of Kalki. Their 5-1/2 feet tall pictures were drawn with portion of their faces cut deliberately; therefore, people visiting the exhibition would stand behind the pictures and put their heads through such gaps making different facial movements; some wearing sun-glasses ; some making funny gestures.  A Muslim took out his head from the gap along with his beard. Many were even taking out their photographs in this form. It was disgraceful denigration of the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu.

Activists of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) viz. Mr. Prasad Mankar, Mr. Satish Sonar, Miss Bhakti Dalvi and Mr. Ashish Mhatre met the associate organizers of the festival, Mr. Prathamesh Shetty and Sushant. Mr. Prasad Mankar said, “You are hurting religious sentiments of Hindus by making mockery of Hindu Deities. Will you dare to draw such pictures of members of your family? Will you dare to draw similar denigrating picture of Jesus under the name of freedom of expression? You have to remove these pictures from the exhibition immediately else we will start agitation.” Mr. Prathamesh Shetty then contacted the chief organizers and removed the denigrating pictures in the presence of the HJS activists.

Denigration of Deities in Kala Ghoda Festival has become a regular feature

It has become a regular feature to denigrate Hindu Deities in Kala Ghoda Festival. Last year, some artists were brought from Rajasthan specially for this festival. They had painted faces of various Hindu Deities and were wearing them, going around making weird gestures. There were two models of cows kept by Times of India on whom pictures of Hindu Deities and Hindi film stars were drawn. HJS activists had met the organizers of Kala Ghoda festival in connection with both the denigrations; but the organizers paid no heed to orders issued by even the police and did not remove the models of cows encouraging denigration. This year too there was denigration made by the organizers of the Festival.
