Florida (USA): A new Hindu temple, Sri Shiva Durga Devi Mandir, has reportedly opened up in Lehigh Acres in Florida (USA).

It will fulfill the longstanding religious and spiritual needs of the Hindus of Lehigh Acres, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Labelle and other surrounding communities and provide a place to “worship in peace”. Hindus of the area come from India, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Suriname, etc.

Meanwhile, Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, applauded efforts of temple-project leaders and Southwest Florida area community to realize this wonderful Hindu temple.

Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that it was important to pass on Hindu spirituality, concepts and traditions to coming generations amidst so many distractions in the consumerist society and hoped that this new temple would focus in this direction. Zed stressed that instead of running after materialism; we should focus on inner search and realization of Self and work towards achieving moksh (liberation), which was the goal of Hinduism.

Organization to launch this temple was reportedly launched in 2007. Mandir’s mission is: To promote and extend the warm hand of love and comfort. People associated with this Mandir include Kent I. Singh, Vishnu Hanoman, Leloutie Lilwah, Ramesh Ramrattan, Ramnaprine Behdas and Genmatty Premdas.

Lehigh Acres in Lee County (Florida) was settled in 1954.  John E. Manning is Lee County Commission Chair while Karen B. Hawes is County Manager.

Hinduism is oldest and third largest religion of the world with about one billion adherents.
