Mumbai: National award for the best film has been announced for Marathi film ‘Deool’ which has denigrated, through a song in the film, Lord Datta worshiped by millions of Hindus. Also, award for the best actor has been declared for Mr. Girish Kulkarni who has enacted in this film. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has strongly opposed the awards. Religious sentiments of Hindus were already hurt due to the objectionable song in this film and now, by conferring the award to such film, their sentiments have been hurt further; therefore, the awards announced for this film should be cancelled, is the demand made by Mr. Shivaji Vatkar, the district coordinator of HJS for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad through a letter written to Mr. Rajiv Kumar Jain, the Director of the Central Film festival.

It has been mentioned by Mr. Vatkar in his letter that there is a song with the lyrics as ‘Phodaa Datta naam taaho….’ shot in the form of ‘aarti’. The words in this song ridicule Lord Datta steeping to very low level. All Hindus recite ‘aarti’ of the Deities worshipped by them with lot of devotion; but this has been distorted in this film. Hundreds of complaints have been lodged against the film. The film has also been challenged by filing a public interest petition (PIL) in Mumbai High Court. When there is so much of controvery surrounding the film, why the film festival has glorified the film by declaring awards? HJS had staged agitation against this film during November – December 2011at various places; therefore, the film was not screened in many theatres. Despite this, the film has been glorified; therefore, the matter should be re-considered. A letter to the above effect has been sent by HJS even to Indian Film Censor Board.

Dear Sir,

Sub: Request to cancel the declared awards to most denigrating and controversial Marathi film ‘Deool”

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti is an NGO engaged in nation building, educating people, about Dharma and Dharmacharan. Kindly visit our website www.hindujagruti.org for further details.

Regret to inform you that you have awarded best film award to Marathi film “Deool” and best film actor award to Girish Kulkarni for the most hated and stuck up in legal controvercial film challenged in the Mumbai High Court. Please note that this movie had most denigrating song which invited lots of protest. However by declaring the best film and best actor award you have further hurt the feelings of the peoples. Hence yor are requested to cancle / withdraw awards.

For the cheap popularity of the film the song “PHODA DATT NAAM TAHO” is repeatedly shown in the movie. The song is based on sacred prayer called AARTI of Lord Datta which is sung by crores of devout Hindus all over India. However “PHODA DATTA NAAM TAHO” song has been worded and sung in most denigrating and mocking way. This had hurt religious sentiments of crores of Hindus. Hence there were lots of police complaints throughout Maharasthra and Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in Mumbai High Court. We had written protest letter to Film Certification Board of India, Regional office Mumbai and had discussions with them. With the result of this protest in the month of November and December 2011 this movie was  by the public and was stopped in many theaters. Information about protest and successful campaign is available on link https://www.hindujagruti.org/news/12988.html

In spite of this legitimate protests the producer and director of this movie adamantly refused to delete the denigrating song and created controversy and unrest in the society. Further we were shocked to hear the awards given by you to the same movie.

In view of above we request you to cancel the awards given to the Marathi movie Deool and the best actor award to Girish Kulkarni.

Awaiting prompt action and reply.
Thanking you,
Yours truly,

(S.G.Vatkar )

Anti-Dharma film ‘Deool’ gets national award for best film

March 10, 2012

Phalgun Krushna 2, Kaliyug Varsha 5113

It is very unfortunate that in a country where Hindus are in majority, films denigrating Hindu Deities get awards. How long are Hindus going to tolerate such things?

New Delhi : Today, awards were declared for 59th national film festival. Marathi film ‘Deool’ has been declared award for the best film. Mr. Girish Kulkarni, the dialogue-writer and actor has received the award for best dialogues; besides, as an actor. (There is denigration of Lord Datta in a song ‘Phoda Datta naam taaho…’ from film ‘Deool’. Heretic Girish Kulkarni has justified such denigration. Indian Government has rubbed soil on the wounds of devout Hindus by declaring award for such film which has hurt religious sentiments of Hindus. Hindus should register their protest, in lawful manner, against this ! – Editor SP)

Few objectionable words from the denigrating song of ‘Deool’

1. Shawling Datta, darling Datta, samruddhi che parking Datta, maryade che marking Datta, marvelous Datta, hi Datta, hi kiti hi-fi Datta….
2. Ek hamma char doggy, dokyamage vartul foggy, andh pangu maharogi… vhal taka tak jagachya jagi, three-way facing deool, deool moti, single sola triple sphurti….
3. Retail madhye wholesale Datta, karal tumhi social Datta, paap sagali dhosel satta……
